1st Birthday Party AVP

I'm having my son's first birthday party and I'm planning to show some of his pictures and videos I've taken of him growing up.  Can anyone recommend good AVP (audiovisual presentation) makers?  Not just the simple slide show but the really good quality AVP with good effects and transitions.  Thanks.

If you are a Windows XP, Windows Movie Maker (included free) has some reasonably good effects and is relatively easy to use.  It's no Adobe Premiere but for the price it's hard to ask for more.
