Until a few days ago there was a nice trail that ran along the base of the mountains behind CC from the TC-CC flyover to Pak Mong. It was perfect for an early morning, pre-work trail run or for parents to take children for a walk. It was also popular with seniors.

It is now being destroyed, evidently by works related to the mega bridge - as usual there's no way to tell what's going on, but that's my guess. There was no advance notice of these works either. Barriers have gone up and the trail is blocked in one place by a wall of boulders eight feet high.

In classic HK fashion, these new works are also destroying much of the extensive stream bed/drainage improvement works that were completed along this trail less than six months ago. Zero govt accountability and an endless supply of taxpayers' money truly is a wonderful thing.  Angry

Thanks. However, I have no confidence that they would do a thing. You might be interested in the responsiveness to complaints the EPD displayed in this instance. It would be amusing if it weren't so tragic.

This project was supposed to be finished in December 2011 - i.e., now.

I walked past the trail's end in Pak Mong yesterday and saw that the govt has recently changed the completion date on notices posted there to June 2012 - six months from now.

What kind of gross incompetence was behind the original, wildly inaccurate completion date? How do you miss it by SIX MONTHS? After all, this should be a fairly simple project - it isn't the Three Rivers Dam. Or is this just another more or less permanent project/jobs program?

It's annoying that this trail can't be used for even longer than expected. Though god only knows what will be left of it by the time the concrete-pouring brigade are finished.

if you'd reported this 11 months ago it could have been on the radar; by walking past every so often, nodding your head and going back not much will happen, and june 2012 might become december as well.

Is this about the slope works at the back of CC (ish)? Where the mud conquered the slip road and the highway a few years ago?

Yes, that's where this is. My flat doesn't face that way. I only got a glimpse of part of the works from CC when I was looking at flats a few months ago - all I could see were massive concrete structures presumably designed to prevent damage to the road etc during heavy rains.

I would not be at all surprised to find the completion date moved another six months, to Dec 2012, round about May next year.

posting on this forum is not going to help much,

you could enquire with the "slope safety unit" at the civil engineering dept - hkss@cedd.gov.hk
or if you have a tender award no. you can bring this up with EMSD

but as there's a precedent on the mudslide during rain I guess a 'safety measures' will come swiftly and that will be it.

Why not walk along the seaside for your morning walk instead of through the hills?
