Sadly, suicide is all too common a problem in HK; as I know personally.  It is devastating, obviously, but often never the real answer -- it is hard to judge someone who does it or be harsh on them - it is already too sad.

We can only try to support friends and family and not push/stress/demand too much.

a 37 year old female who lived in a leased apartment at the Arch thats worth 20 mil, killed herself the other day. This is a disease more prevalent in Hong Kong than other places, so Hong Kong is a sadder city than Tokyo Huh.

it's not: the way suicide is reported in the media can contribute to additional suicides and suicide attempts. And knowing the local media for a good couple of years, it would not be pretty either. Unless there's a crime involved (like killing someone else before committing suicide) I doubt you read a lot in any paper worldwide.

The media will never ever get even a whiff of it. One thing the MO is bloody good at (no pun intended), is to ensure suicides don't get past the Octopus reader

that is the 3rd "jumper" suicide in so many years (all in phase 1) since we moved here, plus at least 3 floating bodies found near or around the pier.  so it seems that it's not so uncommon after all.

i overheard that the woman who died used to work here in CC and received a few complaints from residents which resulted in her being fired, which then added to her depression.

Hi, just new to this site...

Yes, we saw it as everything was happening just outside our window. It's positively female, fair complexsion with dark hair. Happened around 8tish, both me and my husband planned to leave the house late for work and saw that a lot of police and management guys on top of the podium canopy roof, then there she was all limp and lying on a pool of blood.

So horrifying and sad, was not able to sleep for 2 days...
