Hi folks
Though this topic has been discussed countless times, there never has been an answer. After intense research, I narrowed my choices down to 2. I've booked appmts with both HGC and PCCW for Monday evening, but dont know who to say no to.
HGC : 30mb - 119hk$
PCCW: 30mb -256hk$
Ofcourse pccw gives me tv connection and all that, but honestly, Internet is the deciding factor. I dont watch any channels, I download everything, and plug it in my ps3.
So the only thing between the two is the Cost factor. I'm looking for : stable internet, around 400-500kbps download speed and....that's it. Can any HGC/PCCW user out there comment? Can I get this with HGC at the cheaper price? Can one get this with Pccw by paying the higher price?
Would appreciate the help in getting me out of this madness!

I have used PCCW and HGC and prefer HGC; their customer service is much better.
The HGC Internet connection also seems more stable. I am in phase 1 and can't get the 30MB option as I understand it; so I have 10MB and its good enough. I test the speed regularly and it is constant.

I have used PCCW for almost 2.5 yrs, the download speed is good + you get a variety of NOW TV channels. I am using 8m speed and its good for downloading.

Been on PCCW now in two apartments with 10Mb connection. I download TV most days and the speeds are really good. I recently had an issue where the connection stopped working and called PCCW in the evening. They had a guy out the next day after I finished work to fix the problem, which was a connection issue somewhere in the basement of CC. Recently PCCW called me and offered to reduce my monthly payment to $195.
I have a friend who recently moved from PCCW to HGC and he has all sorts of problems and is unable to access many of the download sites that could be used on PCCW. To this day HGC deny they block sites....this has left this person in a stalemate situation as the sites for download are not legal.
Cheers,
Vince

Thanks guys, that's 2 vs 1 for Pccw. I download a lot myself, mostly rapidshare. and if that's not working, I'm screwed (I'm yet to get the last 2 episodes of Lost)..
I was hoping against hope that lot of people favour HGC and for once cheap does translate to being better.

Jus to close to the topic.. I finally gave into Pccw. It's working nicely and I'm getting quite a decent connection. Agreed that it's twice as expensive, but still cheaper than what I paid back in Ireland. If it can continue to offer stability and speed (touch wood).. no complaints!

The way PCCW and HGC works is different. PCCW gives you a direct line. HGC shares it with everyone else and it is for this reason that it is cheaper. You will notice the difference on the weekends when everyone is at home and using the internet. Try measuring the speed that they give you with www.speedtest.netAs for service HGC is 2+ days whereas PCCW is next day. If you rely on it for trading, use PCCW.

all lines in CC are HGC lines, if you order PCCW they will have to check and "rent" capacity from HGC. A new line from PCCW can easily take a week
30M PCCW is also shared within the building, there's no guarantee you actually get 30M (it happens, but not very often). HGC offers 100M (also shared). My 30M flaps regularly and at moments it's just not workable, I use a 1010 dongle as backup; I think I'll put HGC 100M in to compare as the cost is not too bad.

For a new line of course it takes a while. The service and support model is different. Fair enough. My 30M becomes 24-26M. I don't have problems with it and my bandwidth stays up there. I purchased my flat quite a few years ago and our tower does not have 100MB yet.
