I'm not against maintenance as such, but have any of you ever seen a scheduled full day power outage? With a single lift serving 65 floors?

I would understand an hour, maybe two, but nicely from 9 till 5.30 is taking the mickey a bit, no? I would understand a full day if all cabling needs replacing, but I hope that's not the case.
Sounds almost like each tower depends on a single main downstairs, that would be spectacular (& bad planning)

Huh agree with you.Does every necessity  like water/electricity/lifts all have to be serviced at the same time? luckily for me my kids both go to school and I have friends with whom I can spend the day.but what about others with small babies or elders.and where are the steps??God forbid, but if I ever have to use them...I have no clue where they are and is it ok ( i mean I wouldnt be hauled up for doing something wrong??) if i use them sometimes?

8 hours without utilities is ridiculous. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this.

I dont think it's 8 hours continuously. Its 3 half hours at 3 different times.

according to the law requirement, it is acceptable to have such maintenance once every FIVE years. MTR does it EVERY YEAR, it will damage our equitments, I have a friend who's TV is out of order due to the maintenance. And it will drive up our checking costs as well as human costs. I feel MTR is trying every single possible way to earn more $, and I suggest to change it to every THREE years as the average of MTR practice and law standard. BTW, I remember MTR stations and its own assets also check it every FIVE years..............
