ever been in Tin Shui Wai or Yuen Long?
as for the MTR thing, it's not busy or overly packed yet (only after Nam Cheong, I'm a regular rider during peak hours). to increase capacity I think a new track is needed as the last bit between the depot and TC is on a single line somewhere. Cost for that is probably not just a few dollars.

Well once the new riders join us, it will be packed after Tsing Yi.

Yes I agree with Charles; these new comers wil surely be hapless and cluttering up the public walkways and wont be troubling the MTR on or off peak hours as they obviously wont have jobs to go to, will they?  Rhetorical.

Somehow I still think the towers currently ascending right in front of CC will prove far more negatively to owner capital values than the truckloads of government clients who most likely will bring further government funding and investments for schools, job centers, whatever, etc...  Perhaps I am naive.

One obvious benefit to the new masses raining down upon us will be a more frequent train schedule if indeed they do use that facility rather than doss about around the estate.  Oh I just thought of another bonus, the estate will need to be cleaned even more often than it does at present, so the MTR gets a double whammy by having to provide more cleaning services and up our management fees again.  I dont think I have ever before lived in such a highly maintained location, regular and thorough cleansing of public walkways, metal work, floors and so on.  Isn't it amazing that we seemingly need so much cleaning and cleansing...?  Not rhetorical.

Go for it Jeff, we need you even more.

even more benefits:
* a circular bus route will finally make sense, so instead of the owner's having to fund these expensive touring car races to the mtr, proper public transport where user pays (a bit, we all sponsor a bit at the end) will be provided.
* New fences and gates will be setup, dramatically reducing the number of guards needed. One gate at tower 16, one at tower 6 and the last one at phase 1. Maybe we'll add 3 more behind towers 3, 8 and 11 for the bus stops
That's 6 guard posts, 2 men at each, 3 shifts a day - only need 36 guards any more, instead of the three thousand we have running around cluelessly now

see, there's only advantages!

If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you. The chances of MTR doing this are between exceedingly thin and none.

CCCL, may I please ask why you think the MTR would not improve the frequency of trains if there are more passengers?  Is it just well informed cynicism of the MTR or do you have other reasons?  Interested to know (not saying that I disagree with you, just I am an eternal optimist and I see only benefits to having the masses pour down on us).

As a passing thought, can one have 'well informed' cynicism?

Cynicism borne of many years in HK. Also it's also simple economics: why should they commit additional capital equipment when they can make more money using the same amount?

Some customers complaining? This is HK - they will be ignored. MTR will only respond if they are compelled to by the govt, which is unlikely to happen short of extreme conditions.

So, any interest in that bridge?

Actually I love bridges, all those tolls...

It seems Jeff is busy with other matters .... spread too thinly perhaps?

Not to stir the pot or anything, but when is that really big plot directly in front of CC going up for sale? Perhaps the govt would consider a mega public housing estate for that area - can never have too much of a good thing Wink

I believe it has been zoned for tastefully designed low-rises incorporating a large open space green area where people can sit on comfortable park benches, water features, a coastline promenade, and a cluster of non-chain restaurants/bars.

Entrance through the rabbit hole, wardrobe, or looking glass?  Or does it require a commute... say second star to the right and straight on til morning?

For those who are not aware of the grand plans to TC North; here is a scan of Plot 56 and surrounding areas...

It is only the beginning.

Yes. The govt's reclamation scheme announced this week also has a massive blob of reclamation out toward Sunny Bay. Clearly there are exciting things in store for this area.

Sunny Bay??  GREAT, isn't that where the apartheids want the public housing people to go to?  They will be so happy.

"Keep TC Clean" campaign can direct them there.
