We enjoy this course and the location is perfect for Tung Chung residents but today we heard a rumor that it might be closed down and be replaced with a mall.  Has anyone else heard this?

where did you hear the rumour? I think it changed ownership quite recently, so I hope it stays there for another year or two.
maybe they can relocate it along the third runway, that would be spectacular. A bit like Don Muang airport

Joined up w/ some players the other day.  Our membership up the end of this month and I mentioned such.  They said they wouldn't join as the place is closing but had also "heard it" from friends.

are they stopping you from renewing your membership? do you get a refund if they would shut while it still runs (and would they have that in writing) ?

We'd renew as long as they pro-rate should the course get closed.  Courses often have problems w/ renovations and things so it isn't such a big deal and nothing we haven't experienced elsewhere.  When we get back in town we are going to talk to them directly.

We spoke w/ Sylvia yesterday & she said they don't have plans to close.  Thanks for the feedback.

Yes shopping mall unfortunately. It's in the airport plans and has been in the press a few times over the past year or so. Real shame but I wouldn't worry in the next year or so as I think third runway is their first priority.

I received a reply from the airport today, for whatever that is worth:

Dear --------,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would like to inform you that the existing golf course is in short-term lease which will expire in 2013. We will explore opportunities arising from the enhanced connectivity between the airport and the Pearl River Delta (via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link). To this end, consultants have been appointed to evaluate the landside commercial opportunities associated with the airport city and the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities bridgehead economy. The scope covers land in both the North Commercial District of HKIA and its neighbourhood including Tung Chung, North Lantau and Northwest New Territories, (i.e. the wider airport region) and consultation with and incorporating input from relevant Government bureaux and departments. This would form the basis of developing an integrated development strategy for the North Commercial District on the airport island, which is being temporarily used as a golf course at the moment.

Once again, thank you for writing to us.

Yours sincerely,

Customer Service
