Charles, before you disengage your existing contracts with PCCW, please double, double and triple check with HKBN that your particular unit can handle the cabling requirements of HKBN.

There is some stupid arrangement or lack of arrangement more correctly regarding the cabling of buildings.  The issue with getting HKBN inside your apartment is not so much a tower thing, as I was hoping, but it is also to do with your unit.  When most buildings in TC were built, I believe, HKBN didn't exist, so they had no arrangements in place (or something like this).  The long and the short of it, is that you must clarify with them first or you might be stuck.  Out of contract with PCCW and yet HKBN can't instal...

How many local websites do you actually use requiring such high downloads speeds; you may not really need it.

At $238 you do appear to be over paying.

Good Luck...

I have a server at HKIX: differential backups take an hour, but once a month I like to do a separate full backup. At 500M (or even 100M) that would be manageable. These days I write to USB and take a copy on disk out.

30M Netvigator is advertised at 276 a month, I'm sure I can get cheaper if I tie in for another 24 months, but I prefer not to. It used to be 208$ for yonks, then 30M became available at $30

from the experience I've had workwise with HKBN nothing is getting canned until their line is installed and working properly for a fair while.

Actually very good. We have been impressed with the speed. Only real issue to date was getting the email address we requested. That took about 4 attempts before they got the spelling right. Hey ho!
