If an owner outsources their pet care to a helper then that demonstrates that they do not care.

One can't blame a helper for a lack of enthusiasm to clean up after an animal which in their own country, usually, would be regarded as little more than vermin (extreme language used purposely to make a point).  Caring for a dog is only a job for them and about which they probably can not understand why so much fuss is made...).  Owners should take responsibility - if you can not care for an animal do not keep one.

I've noticed improvements by foreigners, locals but not so much w/ helpers.  I notice people dilluting the urine (water/vinegar or maybe just water) and picking up the poo.   I walk after dark in the evening and many a helper is camped out w/ the cell or friends while the pooch lingers nearby.  Perhaps the owner does not care but it is still their responsibility.

what a pile of poo  Grin Did you keep statistics on pee & poo cleaning habits by nationality and/or skin color before and after?
How you define a "helper"? A South East Asian woman that's constantly on the phone and doesn't look like a spoilt tai-tai?

I still see exactly the same as ever. Some people care about their dogs (and their pee/poo) and some others don't give a toss. Same as some people clean up after themselves, others don't. Some smokers throw butts in the bin, some think the floor right in front is more approriate. Some drivers understand the difference between an estate and a highway - some don't. Need to continue?

As for the outsourcing: leaving pets at home while going to work/on holiday would be worse, no? Some ppl really want a dog as a friend so why not - it's a free world, still. Not saying I agree with keeping a dog in a shoebox, but ...

Look the problem is that there are so few places allowing dog ownership so this is why there is such a concentration in CC.
I used to get upset when people refused to get into the lift with my very friendly and beautiful smelling dogs, but now I just shut the door and think to myself how ignorant people can be.
The smell of dog pee is  under the fly over, which actualy is  a public walkway and not CC.
The stairs are the problem in CC
Its the boy dogs that tend to pee on them, as soon as they smell another dog they will pee on top
This is horrid and there should be fines for people who continue to allow their dogs to pee on the stairs, it clearly states that it is not allowed unto you leave the border of CC/
If a person regardless of if they ar a helper or owner they should be found and fined its not rocket science

the smell of dog pee is at the stairs behind tower 12-15, along the footpath (both sides) Kin Tung Road, the orange park next to the school. Just to name a few places ...
Seen yesterday: stroller with 1 rat in and 1 rat running around, owner off to PNS for a good half an hour

If the walkway under the flyover is no CC space but public, why is the CC clean team then so busy watering it every Saturday morning (and blocking it off)?

I thought this thread was about dogs, not rats?  Do people really keep rats?

I think we all recognise the problem, I might say it has been written about ad nauseam....  The answer is not really writing about it here; I would like to suggest non aggressive tackling of the humans in charge of their pets (dogs, rats, cats, whatever) / animals...  Slight embarrassment is more likely to work than hoping they read about it here and change their behaviour having been suitably scolded in print.

Personally, I gently challenge the human offenders when I see desecration in action.  I would hope that if more people took the gentle challenge approach then behaviour can change. I do not think, for example, storming up to someone and screaming and shouting at them is likely to get a result except perhaps your own heart attack...

Come on people, try this approach and see if it works. Mind you, it will not change overnight...

I am for the gentle appoach also.  I would still like some flyers in several languages about proper public pet care or whatever else you would like to name it.  I also think the pet club and the public outreach were good ideas.  I do not remember who was holding it but I stopped to listen for a bit and I do not even have a pet here.  Are there any doggy daycare situations available nearby?  Dogs usually love this type of thing and then are pretty darn tired afterward.

management should hang cricket bats on the walls everywhere. If a dog does something and it doesn't get cleaned up properly you can just pick a bat and smash the dog and/or owner.

they'll learn ...

Charles, I know you are jesting BUT you can not condone cruelty to dogs.  The animals are not in charge of what they are doing, it is ONLY the owners who should be scolded.

Got a twisted ankle after a nasty slip in a pile of dog poo while jogging around CC. I'm now doubtful to attend work and will be $$ out of pocket. These dog owners really make me sick.................would any dog owner like to clean my training shoe?

yeah, have seen a rat too outside tower 15/16. Behind Phase 1 on the footpath next to the main road it is one big dog poo battle field. Even the snails stay away...
