Waited more than 20 minutes for a Lantau taxi at HKG last night around 7pm. After nearly 16 hours in a plane, this was really annoying.
The dispatcher at the blue taxi phone number claimed (if I understood her correctly) that their radio system was down and they were unable to dispatch taxis. Meanwhile the number of people queuing for taxis kept growing. By the time a taxi showed up there must have been a dozen people waiting. I was first in line so I grabbed this taxi. No idea how long those at the end of the queue had to wait.
Jeff - one of your opponents in the DC election highlighted this issue in his campaign, noting that there were less than 50 taxis operating here. Please can you take this issue up? I'm sure there are powerful vested interests who have no desire to increase the number of Lantau taxis, but the current situation is unacceptable for the average person. Thank you.

One thing that I would like to see more of is people sharing taxis from the airport. Unless I'm in a group I'll offer to share back to CC with anyone there as I've also felt the frustration of waiting for over 30 mins.... I find it strange that with so many people going back to CC you still see people getting and coming back without offering to share the ride.
The irony is that I moved to CC from Wanchai and I've found that with the taxi wait, I used to actually make it back to my flat in Wanchai quicker from when I got off the plane than getting to my flat in CC! Go figure!

Mmm, why not just jump on a bus? The S56 is reliable, easy and cheap.

Same reason I couldn't invite anyone to share the taxi - my companion and I had three very large suitcases and a couple of carry ons. Didn't fancy lugging them to and on and off the bus, though it did cross my mind briefly when no Lantau taxis were turning up.
Anyway, like the taxi sharing, it wouldn't even be necessary if there were enough taxis....
I do sometimes use the S56 when I'm on my own or after a short flight, or when we go over to T2 to eat. But after the ordeal of a flight from NY I want a taxi, not the bus.

have you tried a "man with a van" at car park 1 ? also you can walk up to the red taxis and ask one of the traffic managers and ask for a cab to Tung Chung, they'll give a ticket to the red cab which allows him to drop you off in TC and then go straight back to the front of the queue

Do they really do that for the Red Taxi's? That would be surprisingly good news if they do.

Excellent. I will try this next time then and the lantau taxi triad drivers association can keep their numbers low

For taxi drivers to tung chung from the airport, a ticket will be given so they can return with the fast track again. btw, I also aware of the taxi issue here, I will try to "release" or/and "increase" supply whichever way possible. Thanks.

Thanks for confirming that policy, Jeff, and for taking up this issue.
