Posting this just so others read it and warn their helpers or themselves be very careful.
The woman who died was a helper who was cleaning the windows. She was found still clinging to the window grill. The grills which we get fixed on our windows for safety are held in place with tiny screws.Obviously they could'nt protect the poor woman.

how does that work? she was leaning out of the window, using the grill to hold on and not lose her balance?

Probably her kind hearted employer told her to clean the outside of the window and the poor woman obeyed.

So sad.

As much as I hate dirty windows, I just live with them - not worth the risk cleaning them more than 6 ft off the ground!

This is awful. If her employer made her go outside of the safety zone to wash windows they should be sent to jail. I would never ask my domestic helper to clean the outside windows. I assumed she knows that but just in case I spoke with her yesterday and told her never to clean the outside windows. She said she cleans the windows but is on the balcony. I told her do not even do that because it is too dangerous. i'm thinking og placing a lock on the balcony doors just to make sure. Some of these employers simply have little compassion for domestic helpers. This is a terrible tragedy.

This is really terrible! How sad.
Even I don't dare cleaning them from this height, let alone ask my helper to do it.

I don't think there are window washing done in any apartment in HK, like those used in office buildings.
Well, just wait for the annual typhoons to help.

She reached out to clean a window?  That is so sad.  I never stretch out to do this.

To clean those windows, wait until it rains and poors.  This is so that my neighbors downstairs don't complaint of water.  Before I got my hose, I would have a bucket of water and would throw cups of water at the windows.

So sad to hear this news.  I thought the suicides were rumors, oh no.

You can pay a company to clean the windows, they wear safety gear.  Or you can just get an extending handle sponge/squeegee and only ever reach your arm out which would be the next option.  I'm going to have to avoid that stair for a bit.  Still better to know than wonder. Thanks for sharing.
