I am teaching a 9 yr old girl mandarin, thought it would be fun and more effective if I have one more girl to do it together. Yes, for free. I live on tower 10, preference is for girl, as, oh well, "girls rock, boys suck" according to my student. 93266940 ask for Eric

To you I am Mao the Great Poet, to my 8 years old daughter I am a loving father with a big heart. I am trying to speak more English at home so that my daughter is the best English speaker at her class, as she is going to a local school in Tsuen Wan. My ability to accomplish this goal is greatly enhanced by her having this companian who is going to ESF. In return I teach Mandarin, which is desired by her parents. But she has a motivational issue with learning Mandarin. I thougt one more girl will add a bit fun and competition in the process...My daughter also speaks Mandarin. Boys and girls at this age do not really get along well.

Did you pass the Putonghua Kao Shi standard test issued by the Chinese government?

If so what level did you attain?

I speak Putonghua growing up, so I do not need anyone to test my ability. In addition I have a tool so powerful in helping people to memorize what have been taught, its effectiveness can easily be seen. But I do need to pick up little tricks which turn a lazy little girl into a hungry learner.

Sounds like you are a litte wee bit too confident in your abilities.  The solutions and methods are not new.  The memorization bit is not so new either as this has been around for a few decades.  I still remember many of the methods were more experimental in the early 1980s in the research laboratories in the university.  Have fun rediscovering things.

I think so too FatRat.  Often I hear Putonghua spoken by people whom think they have no accent and aslo denigning that there is a standard in China.

Why would you change your icon on daily basis?? This defeats the purpose of having a constant icon to make acquintance. Do not worry, this is a trial at mutual help and not selling anything at anybody's expense.

I think the Free bit is just for the start.  She will CHARGE later.  That is the gag with the free thing.

Oh, I do not mind if you pay me, but at what rate? Your call. Remember I prefer girls around 8.

FatRat,

No way!  She is NOT qualified.  I already have a tutor from Beijing teaching my daughter.  This one sounds risky and I smell a rat.

do I know you??

So the presumption was correct.   Grin
Now I judge.

Temper, temper...what temper you have.

And what language you use.

I would not bring my kids to someone with such a temper in fear that the teacher will hit them. Huh

But I smiled, didn't I? isn't that nice? By the way I got the other girl, better still who is fluent in both Cantonese and English. So this opportunity is now closed. This is a strange place with strange people whose pettiness is here for everyone to judge. What is the point of removing your posting after it is captured by my reply and thus is here permanently? You do have sense of shame donot you. Fatrat, do you know what is a moron? Look into a mirror and you will see a fat one.... Roll Eyes

This might be off topic but.. Roll Eyes are there any language exchange programs going on in CC?

I'm a "HK resident" returning to Hong Kong for permanent stay now. While i understand and speak 'native' Cantonese, I'm looking to understand more on the slangs and culture part of Cantonese and Hong Kong. I've spent most of my time studying abroad in Singapore and Melbourne. I would love to meet anyone who is interested in improving their Mandarin or English.  Cheesy
