Hello all.  I've just arrived and am staying in Tower 8 in CC.  First - anyone have the Gala GMB 95 Q washing machine in their unit?  Is this a washer and dryer?  I don't have any documentation on it and would love to be able to use it if anyone has had any luck...

Also, I have read some about the common complaint in CC about the strange odor seemingly emanating from the kitchen.  Has anyone come up with a good solution?

I appreciate the work you've all done to create this forum.  I am looking forward to my time here as well as meeting some of you.

Thanks,
Jason

I doubt you will meet me in person as I am quite busy, unless you jog.

The machine is both a washer and drier.

The smell might come from reverse flow of air from the effluent pipe of the washer.  Other than that there is nothingelse unless you have a gas leak.

I do jog so maybe...  would like information/directions to get to the trails behind CC

I found the pipe that seems to be the drain for the washer and don't smell anything from the pipe directly but the odor does seem to be stronger under the sink and stove.

Don't think its a gas leak - different smell.

thanks,
Jason

Check the filter to see if it's the culprit.

P.S. Another set of maintenance manuals sent to you. Pls check email.  Wink

Hypothetically - if the w.machine has genuinely packed up.... are there models around that could into the same grove in the kitchen without alterations / renovations having to be made ?

I have been told the way to get rid of the odor in the kitchen is as follows.

Look under the bottom part of your kitchen cabinet under the sink area. Apparently there is an xtra drain in the floor there to take care of any possible flooding in the kitchen - ie water on the floor will run down there. This is the source of the smell.

Deal with it two ways - if you want to leave it open then pour some water down there to let it fill up and therefore block the smell coming up - it dries out after a month or two and then you will smell it again. My mate has a piece of hosepipe with a funnel attached in there permanently and just opens up the cupboard and pour the water every now and then.
Otherwise seal it with silicone sealant if you are sure you are not going to flood your kitchen anytime soon and don't need it.

Check the ring around the door, sometimes material gets stuck there.

Give it a good cleaning, and the smell may disappear

Under each sink is a bulb looking thing that can be unsrewed by hand.  If not cleaned regularly it will grow a fur coat of slime, in the bulb and in the piping that leads to it.  This does smell foul, this can be absolutely gross.  Clean from time to time and replace.  Then fill sink w/ diluted bleach water.  Let water run down drain and this will put bleachy water in the line to kill anything that you couldn't get at.  Later run lots of water down drain to push it through.

Any of the overflow drains that evaporate their water will allow sewer gases into your unit.  If the line hasn't been used the water evaporates.  Simply pour a couple liters down the drain to fix the problem.  I've read that a little veg oil helps to prevent evaporation while the unit is empty but I've not tried it.
