I don't think the issue here is the way children behave - they are kids and they will scream. I think the issue more is why the h*&ll people who are working in the gym should be subjected to the screams.

We can all get along far more harmoniously if there is a better environment to do so. The simplest solution would be to put up a glass wall right around the gym area to cut the noise out. I wouldn't put glass around the open children's play area because that's just a recipe for some broken heads the way the kids run around. The massive toddler's play area is an absolute misuse of space anyway - the children and toddler's play area should have ideally been housed within the existing toddler's area. I sure would like to meet the brain(?) behind the design of the clubhouse.

I'm looking for open discussion and doable options.  I don't know anything about posting "another notice" but if it was done it obviously didn't work.  I doubt anyone would need any explanations as to the fact that children make noises and have behaviour other than adults so I'll take this as venting.  Let's look for solutions to the situation.

I agree that the open play area would be better if it were in the contained play area.  This would provide a layer of sound insulation.  I also know that we would still be able to hear the children if they get loud which one would expect.  Children might run into the glass but the same is an issue now.  I also see them fall off the equipment and the ledge in the open play area, it happens and this is why the parent should assure supervision.

Now aside from the territorial issue of children and their play area this may be a doable solution that a majority of people could agree on so that it is a useful space for all involved not with a great majority tolerating the situation.  I love children but this has nothing to do with them or my liking them.  Even my friends who have small children like the play area but don't like to use the clubhouse themselves.  This has to do with a space which is shared by, used by and paid for by many of the residents.  (I can use the clubhouse but I pay extra for the gym.) One aspect of the multi use area is causing the other areas to be lacking in their ability to be enjoyed.  This same aspect has real estate which is not being used, the combination of the two might be the solution.

btc, good intentions...

Management just don't care or are clueless.  To be fair I suppose they are just clueless rather than don't care.  It is for them to find a suitable solution if indeed they are aware there is a problem to be solved.

Personally, I am just as happy to see and hear children being children rather than the mindless drones we can often see around us.

I wrote to a friend of mine who has a couple young children they take with them when they go to their gym. They said the way they handle this is with "indoor voices" and "outdoor voices".  Their gym has a child care gymboree (enclosed large room) and the child must use indoor voices in the play area or they page you-eeek.  I looked up some info. on this concept:

http://kristiewells.blogspot.com/2005/12/please-behave-and-use-your-indoor.html
http://childcare.about.com/od/childbehaviorquicktips/qt/voice.htm

(It would be nice if my neighbor down the hall practiced this form of parenting.)

I have noticed that early in the morning and late at night there is less noise from the play area because there are fewer children.  I think some have early bedtimes.  I've also noticed that the gym is more crowded during that time.  The library is unusable as such but at least they have a barrier.

btc, have to remember the CC kids come out of a shoebox flat when they're released into the playground. They have not been playing in their garden all morning/afternoon/day before going for some quiet rest&relax in the clubhouse.

I think issues are getting mixed up here. Kids should be able to play, scream, run around do what they want (as many have mentioned - just be kids). No one grudges them that. On the other hand, people in the gym should be able to work out in peace and quiet with better air-conditioning.

The two can be mutually exclusive right? Why should making the gym quieter immediately mean a disservice to the kids? We aren't talking about making the gym quieter by putting a tape on the kids mouths, we are talking about redesigning the space such that the above 2 objectives are achieved.
