holy cow it's really far to walk to citygate mtr.  the bus doesn't save time if you count the waiting time.  we need rickshaws!  someone make this happen please.   Grin

i meant we need rickshaw service.  we ride in it.  someone else will pedal for a small fee to take us from citygate to the caribbean coast towers.

Mmm.  I will need to find a $2300-3000 p.m. parking space for this.

then you have to find some place to lock it near the mtr.  also, you also can't ride a bike if a guy is wearing a suit or if a girl is wearing a dress/skirt.

why not get on your bike?

I think you misunderstood dber's comment

being told to 'get on yer bike' is not a suggestion that you ride a bicycle to Citygate to solve your ridiculous conundrum

I don't believe people will forgo a free air conditioned bus ride to take a rickshaw to citigate, where they will need to walk through a mall to get to the MTR.  I've timed the walk and it is not a time saving exercise.... just exercise.

How much would a guy charge for this ride?  2HKD?  6mins return ride = 10 rides / hr.  The chap would be able to make maybe 30 HKD / morning... sit and wait through the afternoon sun... and then maybe make another 50HKD in the evening.  Total 40 rides back and forth a whole day wasted for 80hkd... is that a reasonable day's pay for someone? I dun think so... However, we can use one of the redundant staff... would that person need to charge? Cheesy

2 hkd per ride is too low.  5 hkd per ride is about right.  i bet there will be people willing to work at that rate.  the guy doesn't need to just take one person each trip.

it's about the convenience.  sometimes when people get off the mtr, they don't want to wait in line for another 5-10 minutes to get on a cramped bus.  this is especially true if they're carrying groceries or other shopping bags.

another thing is that these buses are old and not the right kind of bus for the job.  i don't know if you guys have seen the newer shuttle buses at other apartment complexes.  much more spacious and there's room for luggage.  there's also room for people to stand in case the seats are full.

I think it is a long time since HK Govt stopped issuing Rickshaw licence so I suppose the temr is 'hop on ya bike' its a non starter.

Well, it is not the money and the logic of comparing this to the an air conditioned bus, but the romance of having a rickshaw and leisurely stroll from Caribbean Coast to Citygate.

It would be US$50 for a special weekend ride from Caribbean Coast around to the empty piece of land, then the trip would stroll around the docks of Tung Chung where you can enjoy the wonderful scenery of the ocean and airport.  One can even take a short walk with a loved one while the rickshaw waits to catch his breath.  This is followed by possible drop-off at the famous cable cars that one rides to see the Big Bhudda.  For an extra US$10, if you do not drop-off at the cable car stop, you can take the ride to Citygate.

This idea is more like it.  Don't think its a viable sell for the current setup... but visionary.
